An Open Letter from Peace Academy

A Letter for Peace.
A Call to Humanity.

Peace Academy has written an open letter inviting governments, political leaders and citizens worldwide to take courageous action towards a peaceful future. It begins with a simple conviction: lasting peace begins within each human being.

The Open Letter

An Open Letter to Citizens of the World

This letter is an invitation to dialogue, understanding and collective action towards lasting peace.

June 2026

Peace Academy writes with a simple conviction: lasting peace begins within each human being (Don Pet, Founder, The Educational Community/Peace Academy).

This belief is the foundation of our work. We teach practical skills that help people transform how they understand conflict, manage emotions, communicate effectively, and build cooperation.

The world does not suffer from a lack of intelligence, technology, or resources. Too often, it suffers from a lack of shared thinking that values cooperation over confrontation and understanding over division. When leadership frames global challenges in terms of permanent enemies rather than shared problems, or assigns blame instead of accepting mutual accountability, entire populations inherit that division. True statesmanship requires a rejection of this destructive framing. We encourage this approach.

Words are not neutral. The language we use shapes the way we think, the choices we make, and the relationships we build.

We believe that small but profound shifts in language and mental framing can transform you, your community, and the world.

Below are seven simple word shifts that can open the door to a newer way of thinking. We offer more than ideas. We offer practical, forever-free education that can help people build peace through understanding, connection, and cooperation. When practiced consistently, we believe that these small changes in language can produce profound changes in relationships, and ultimately help move our world from conflict toward peace.

Seven Word-Switches

  1. “I think I can” instead of “I can't”

Opens the mind to possibility and creates new pathways for negotiation, compromise, and resolution.

  2. “I allow” instead of “They make me”

Replaces blame with personal responsibility, agency, and self-determination.

  3. “I could” instead of “I should”

Encourages choice, creativity, and a more collaborative approach to the future.

  4. “Both/and” instead of “Either/or”

Moves beyond rigid binaries and opens the door to nuanced, mutually beneficial solutions.

  5. “What works best for us, now and in the future?” instead of “What works only for me and mine, here and now?”

Expands the frame from short-term self-interest to shared and lasting benefit. Enduring peace is built on this principle.

  6. “Energy” instead of “Anger” or “Anxiety”

Reframes intense emotions as energy that can be directed constructively. This discipline supports wiser decisions, especially during times of tension and uncertainty.

  7. “Urgency” instead of “Emergency”

Helps distinguish what requires prompt attention from what truly demands a crisis response. That distinction is essential to wise leadership and effective peacebuilding.

A Call to Action

Peace is more than an ideal, it is a skill that can be learned, practiced, and strengthened.

At Peace Academy, we provide practical peace-building tools that are free and available to everyone. These skills empower people to communicate more effectively, resolve conflict constructively, and become active contributors to a more peaceful world.

We invite you to begin that journey today. Learn these skills, put them into practice in your daily life, and share them with others. Every person who develops the skills of peace creates a ripple effect that strengthens families, workplaces, communities, and ultimately our world.

To explore our mission further, visit our website, watch one of our short videos, or attend a Genie Seminar. Together, we can move beyond simply hoping for peace; we can learn how to create it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I personalise the letter?

A letter in your own words, addressed to your own representative, carries far more weight than a copy. Personalising it shows genuine civic engagement, and that is exactly what leaders notice.

Can I translate it?

Yes, please do. Peace speaks every language. You are warmly encouraged to translate the letter and adapt it respectfully to your local context.

Can organisations participate?

Absolutely. Companies, non-profits, faith groups and civic associations can send the letter on behalf of their members and share the initiative with their networks.

Can schools participate?

Yes. The letter and the Seven Word-Switches make a wonderful classroom activity on civic participation, language and peacebuilding. Teachers are welcome to adapt it for students.

Is there any cost?

None. The letter, and all of Peace Academy's educational resources, are forever free.

Can I share it publicly?

Please do. Post it, print it, read it aloud at community gatherings. The more people who encounter these ideas, the stronger the movement becomes.

Peace begins with each of us.
